Description:
Environment Liaison Center International (ELCI) is a Non Governmental membership Organization that emerged
and was established from the first Earth Summit in Stockholm in 1972. This initiative
was aimed at monitoring the activities of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and help Non
Governmental Organizations and UNEP work more effectively.
ELCI has a membership network of over 800 NGO/CBO member organizations in over 100 countries all working
towards a more sustainable world. ELCI has consultative status with the
Commission for Sustainable Development (UN-CSD), United Nations Environment Programme,
Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
Accredited to among others, Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Desertification (UNCCD), Conference
of Parties to
the Commission on Biodiversity (CBD), the Montreal Protocol for the protection of the ozone layer, the
UN Commission on
Human Settlements (UNCHS) Habitat II, and UNESCO.
