MALTAMalta National Biodiversity PlatformMalta Email: nvell01@um.edu.mt Website: www.bioplatformmalta.org Type: NGO Scope: national Interest in Forestry: peripheral Description The Malta National Biodiversity Platform is a new structure composed of different government and nongovernment representatives working together to assess and promote research and policy requirements for biodiversity in the Maltese Islands. This local structure would also support the European Platform for Biodiversity Research Strategy. Main aim of the organization: The appreciation of the natural resources is of an on growing concern to governmental bodies, non-governmental organisations and to the public in general. Within this scenario, the role of the Malta National Biodiversity Platform is an effective way of promoting up-to-date research, while disseminating the scientific knowledge through a network of scientists and policy makers, in order to answer specific questions regarding biodiversity conservation. The main objectives of the Malta National Biodiversity Platform are: - to provide a network for scientists and policy makers that work in different fields of biodiversity, thus enhancing the communication between scientists and end-users of research results. - to promote the dissemination of current best practices and information regarding the scientific understanding of biodiversity conservation. - to contribute to European Research Area for Biodiversity, by promoting the National Platform on biodiversity and linking it to other European Platforms. Thus helping at improving the effectiveness of European biodiversity research. |
