Description
Environmental Association of Cabo Delgado (AMA) is an environmental NGO with a socio-cultural focus.
The work of AMA is based on the voluntary participation of the members. AMA was
founded in Pemba in 1990 by persons motivated to safeguard natural resources and the environment.
The work areas of AMA include targeting the causes and dangers of erosion, as well as deforestation
and the extinction of endangered species. Some of the members of AMA have formed a theatre
group that make awareness rising plays in the communities and slum areas of Pemba, concerning environmental
issues.
Furthermore, AMA has also included a HIV/AIDS component in their awareness rising work. The main aim
of the cooperation with MS is organizational capacity within AMA.
The object is to improve AMA’s ability to implement programs and projects regarding sustainable management
of the environment. Encouragement of the participation of the local communities is
fundamental to secure sustainable development and management of the natural resources.
