Description
Mission Statement: 1) To promote animal welfare, and in particular to prevent the suffering, both physical
and psychological, of animals in captivity.
2) To promote the conservation of animals in their natural habitat and to encourage the protection of
the natural environment.
3) To provide educational material to all ages encouraging a better understanding and a greater respect
for wild animals and their needs.
4) To promote educational & research activities dealing with promotion of animal welfare & conservation
of the natural environment.
The IUCN Red List of threatened and endangered species ranks Orang-utan as Endangered - a taxon is Endangered
when it is facing a very high risk of extinction in the wild in the near future.
Sumatran Orang-utan are listed as Critically Endangered - a taxon is Critically Endangered when it is
facing an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild in the immediate future.
Wildlife New Zealand is dedicated to promoting conservation, both animal and plant, with a particular
focus on New Zealand's unique biodiversity.
