Description
Natural England was formed by bringing together English Nature and elements of the Countryside Agency
and the Rural Development Service.
Natural England works for people, places and nature to conserve and enhance biodiversity, landscapes
and wildlife in rural, urban, coastal and marine areas. We conserve and enhance the natural
environment for its intrinsic value, the wellbeing and enjoyment of people, and the economic prosperity
it brings. We promote access, and recreation and contribute to the way natural resources are
managed so they can be enjoyed now and by future generations.
To do this, we support individuals and organisations in actions that will benefit the natural environment
and increase opportunities to make it an enriching part of people’s everyday lives. We promote
sustainable solutions to environmental problems to increase the social and economic value of the natural
environment, and bring together those who influence and shape our environmental future to
improve its long term security.
